JEE Main 2024: The Ultimate Guide to Eligibility Criteria

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) is a pivotal entrance test for students aiming to pursue undergraduate engineering courses in India. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam serves as a gateway to top engineering and architecture institutes in the country. With the exam dates for JEE Main 2024 already announced, it's crucial to understand the eligibility criteria to ensure you qualify for the test.

Age Limit: No Barriers Here

Good news for all JEE aspirants—there is no age limit for JEE Main 2024. This means you can appear for the exam irrespective of your age, offering a level playing field for all candidates.

Year of Passing Class 12th: Flexibility Offered

Students who have passed their Class 12th exams in 2022, 2023, or are appearing in 2024 are eligible for JEE Main 2024. This provides flexibility for students who might have taken a gap year or are planning to do so.

Number of Attempts: Three's the Charm

You can attempt the JEE Main exam for three consecutive years. This allows you to improve your score and ranking if you're not satisfied with your initial performance.

Subject Requirements: The Core Trio

Candidates must have studied at least five subjects in Class 12th. Among these, Physics and Mathematics are mandatory. The third subject can be Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational, giving you some room to choose based on your interests.

Minimum Marks: A Two-Tier System

While there is no minimum percentage requirement to appear for the JEE Main exam, admission into Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) requires at least 75% marks or being in the top 20 percentile of your board. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark requirement is 65%.

Diploma Students: You're Welcome Too

If you have completed a 3-year diploma instead of Class 12th, you're still eligible to appear for JEE Main. However, to get admission into IITs, you'll need to clear JEE Advanced.
