UGC Boosts Fellowship Grants: What This Means for 31,000 Students

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced a significant revision in the fellowship amounts for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) programs in science, humanities, and social sciences. Effective from January 1, 2023, this revision will benefit approximately 31,000 students.

The Revised Rates

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The monthly fellowship amount has been increased from ₹31,000 to ₹37,000.
  • Senior Research Fellowship (SRF): The monthly fellowship amount has been raised from ₹35,000 to ₹42,000.
  • Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship: A similar increment has been approved for this fellowship aimed at single girl children.
  • Dr. DS Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship (DSKPDF): The fellowship amount has been increased to ₹67,000 per month for the entire tenure, up from ₹54,000.
  • Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Women (SC/ST): The fellowship amount has been enhanced across the board, with the first year now offering ₹58,000 per month, the second year ₹61,000, and the third year ₹67,000.
