The Ministry of Education has officially commenced the registration process for the National Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) for the academic year 2023-24. The scholarship is aimed at students from classes 9 to 12 who belong to economically weaker sections of society. The last date to apply for this scholarship is November 30, 2023. Students whose parental income is not more than Rs. 3,50,000 per annum are eligible to apply for the NMMS Scholarship. Additionally, applicants must have secured at least 55% marks or equivalent grades in their class 7 exams. Students belonging to SC and ST categories are given a 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks. The primary goal of the NMMS Scholarship is to reduce the dropout rate among students who have completed class 8 and to encourage them to continue their education at the secondary stage. The scholarship aims to provide financial support to meritorious students who may otherwise be unable to continue their education due to financial constraints. The Ministry of Education awards one lakh fresh scholarships annually, starting from class 9 and continuing through classes 10 to 12. The scholarship amount is Rs 12,000 per annum, which is directly transferred to the students' bank accounts through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) following the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. The scholarship applications undergo two levels of verification. The first level is conducted at the institution or school level by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) on December 15, 2023. The second level of verification is carried out by the District Nodal Officer (DNO) on December 30, 2023.Who Can Apply?
